Dash cam guide

The dash cams we install and recommend

We install dash cams at our Etobicoke studio, and the first question is always which one to buy. These are our picks from VIOFO, 70mai and REDTIGER, sorted by budget, each with the hardwire kit and memory card it needs.

We earn from qualifying purchases made through the Amazon links on this page.

How to choose

Four things that matter.

  1. 01

    Coverage

Front + rear suits most drivers. Add a cabin camera if you carry passengers or drive rideshare, or go 4-channel for 360° coverage.

  2. 02

    Parking mode

Recording while parked needs the camera's hardwire kit, wired to the fuse box. The kit cuts power before the battery runs low.

  3. 03

    Memory card

Dash cams rewrite their card all day, so use a high-endurance card. VIOFO cameras don't include one.

  4. 04

    Installation

Labour-only: front only from $100, front + rear $150. Interior and 4-channel setups are quoted per vehicle.

Buying a dash cam, answered.

What customers ask us before they order.

Start with coverage, then budget. On a budget, the REDTIGER F7NP and 70mai A810S record front and rear. In the mid-range, the 70mai 4K T800 and REDTIGER F17 Elite add a cabin camera, and the REDTIGER VP40 covers 360° with four cameras. VIOFO's A229 Plus, A229 Pro 3CH and A329S are the premium picks. Each one is listed on this page with the hardwire kit and memory card it needs.

Of the cameras we install, the REDTIGER F7NP and 70mai A810S are the budget picks. Both have a 4K front camera and a rear camera, and both come with a 128GB memory card, so the only extra is the hardwire kit if you want parking mode.

Pick a 3-channel camera so the cabin is recorded too. The VIOFO A229 Pro 3CH is our pick; the 70mai 4K T800 and REDTIGER F17 Elite are mid-range options.

Only for parking mode, so the camera can record while the car is off. Buy the kit made for your camera: VIOFO's HK4 for its A229 and A329 cameras, 70mai's UP03 for the A810S and 4K T800, and REDTIGER's own hardwire kit for its cameras. We connect it to a fused circuit, and the kit's cut-off stops it draining the battery.

A high-endurance card, because a dash cam rewrites its card constantly and regular cards wear out. The 70mai and REDTIGER cameras on this page include one. VIOFO cameras don't, so each VIOFO pick links to a VIOFO high-endurance card.

Installation is labour-only: front only from $100, front + rear $150. Interior, 4-channel and other setups are quoted per vehicle. The camera, kit and card are bought separately.
