A ceramic spray sealant lasts months. A professional ceramic coating lasts years. Both bead water and both get called "ceramic", which is where the confusion starts. Here is the honest difference, what each costs, and where traditional wax fits.

Quick Answer
Both make water bead and both get sold as "ceramic". They are not the same product:
Ceramic spray sealant — a synthetic layer applied on top of the paint. Lasts months. Refreshed at each detail. Included in our Silver and Gold packages as the Hydrophobic Ceramic Wax Finish.
Professional ceramic coating — bonds to the clear coat, lasts 3–5 years, far harder and far more chemical-resistant. A one-time application with paint correction included.
Traditional carnauba wax — the old option. Warm gloss, but gone in 4–8 weeks and almost no chemical resistance. We do not offer it, and the reasoning is below.
Short version: sealant is maintenance, coating is protection.
A Note on the Name
Our Silver and Gold detail packages list a Hydrophobic Ceramic Wax Finish. Despite the name it is not carnauba wax — it is a ceramic-infused spray sealant. The industry uses "ceramic wax", "spray sealant" and "ceramic spray" more or less interchangeably, which is exactly why people end up comparing products that are not comparable.
If someone quotes you a "ceramic" job for a couple of hundred dollars, they are almost certainly describing a spray sealant, not a coating. That is a legitimate product — just not the same one.
Why We Do Not Sell Traditional Wax
Carnauba looks genuinely lovely on dark paint, and for a show car the warm depth is hard to beat. As protection it does not hold up:
It softens in heat, so summer shortens it further
It offers almost no resistance to road salt, bug acid or bird droppings — the things that actually etch clear coat
At 4–8 weeks, staying continuously protected means roughly 8–12 applications a year
A ceramic spray sealant does the same job for longer and survives an Ontario winter far better, which is why it is what goes on our detail packages.

A fair way to think about it: the spray sealant is part of keeping the car clean, and you are buying a detail. The coating is a one-time investment in the paint itself, and it keeps working between washes for years rather than months.
What a Ceramic Coating Does NOT Do
The marketing around coatings oversells them, so plainly:
It is not scratch-proof. It resists light swirl marks and wash-induced marring. It will not stop a key, a stone chip or a shopping cart.
It does not replace washing. It makes washing easier and less damaging. A neglected car still gets dirty.
It does not fix defects it cannot see past. It seals in whatever is underneath, which is why correction comes first.
It does not stop rock chips. Nothing chemical does — that is paint protection film, a physical barrier.
What is the difference between a ceramic spray sealant and a ceramic coating?
A spray sealant sits on top of the paint and wears away over months. A coating chemically bonds to the clear coat, is considerably harder, lasts 3–5 years, and has to be polished off. Both are ceramic-based, which is why the names get muddled.
Is ceramic coating better than wax?
For protection and durability, comfortably. It bonds to the clear coat and lasts years rather than weeks, and it resists the salt and chemicals that wax does not. Wax still gives a warmer gloss on dark paint, which is why show cars still use it — but we do not offer it as a protection option.
How long does a ceramic spray sealant last?
Typically four to six months, shorter through a salt-heavy GTA winter. It is refreshed each time the vehicle is detailed.
Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?
Yes, and single-stage correction is already included in our 3 Year and 5 Year packages. A coating locks in whatever is on the paint, so correcting first is not optional — it just is not a separate line item.
Can I upgrade from a spray sealant to a coating later?
Yes. The sealant wears away, and the coating prep involves decontamination and correction regardless, so nothing is wasted.
Is a ceramic coating worth it on a leased car?
Often, though for a different reason: it makes the vehicle far easier to keep clean and helps avoid wear-and-tear charges at turn-in. On a short lease, the sealant in a Gold detail may be the better economics.
